New Media Expo Sold To BlogWorld
Posted by Tim Bourquin
Yep, it’s true. New Media Expo and BlogWorld will be the same event in 2009!
When we held the first Portable Media Expo in 2005, I knew nearly everyone at the event by first name, or at least by the name of their podcast! It was exciting to walk down the hallway of the convention center and catch bits and pieces of the conversations. I heard, “I’ve been listening to your show for months - it’s great to finally meet you!” over and over again. As podcasting grew, it became obvious that most podcasters had not only their show, but a blog, a twitter account, a Flickr account, a YouTube channel, a Facebook account, and more. Podcasting was another way people were communicating with their networks and we could see that an event that focused just on podcasting was missing parts of the picture. We added other types of online multimedia to the conference and the scope of the Expo continued to grow.
Rick, Dave and Libby then started BlogWorld because a national event for bloggers was missing and they did a tremendous job of bringing together all aspects of the blogosphere. I’ve known Rick for several years now - we met a few years before he started BlogWorld because we were both in the tradeshow business and met at industry events. I have a tremendous amount of respect for Rick and his colleagues at BlogWorld and as I thought about it more, I realized the two events really did need to come together as one. Rick and I had been talking about doing something together for a while.
Ultimately, I’m an entrepreneur. I love starting events and websites and seeing where I can take them. But I also know when it’s time to let someone else take that vision and run with it. Taking the New Media Expo to the next stage is something I know Rick and his team at BlogWorld can do well. Handing over the reigns of the New Media Expo to the passionate and capable team at BlogWorld is going to allow me even more time to develop several podcasting sites I’ve been working on for a while.
This is going to be a great move for both attendees and exhibitors. A single event that covers blogging, podcasting and all other forms of new media is truly needed for everyone to create better content and provides a huge networking event for everyone involved in this space.
I thank all of the podcasters, bloggers and online video creators that have supported the Expo and the Podcast Brothers over the years. I’m excited to see where it all goes from here - it’s an exciting time to be in new media - and I’ll see you at BlogWorld and New Media Expo next year!
We’ll have more information on a Podcast Brothers show coming up tomorrow.

Tim,
Ah change. Best wishes as you move forward.
Yes, there are a lot of great events out there and BlogWorld is one of them. BUT no one comes close to your ability to host a smooth running, well organized, participant-focused event.
The next time I’m waiting for a session to begin while the microphones are being adjusted, or seminar rooms are being rearranged or some speaker is shamelessly selling their services, I’ll be missing you.

Thanks for the kind words Karl. I’m especially thrilled that you notice those little things that I am fanatical about (Audio visual being a big one).
All the best,
Tim

Tim-
PME was an integral part of helping me move the SlashdotReview Podcast forward into SDRNews through the connections, thought leadership and challenges you presented each year. Best of luck in your new ventures and hopes that the “business side of Podcasting and new media” gets covered . They will have a long way to go to beat the Podcast Brothers !

Outstanding! Congratulations Tim. I hope it works out great for you guys. There is so much synergy between BlogWorld and NewMedia that I think it is a perfect fit.

Thank you for all your hard work in the previous shows. You’ve done great things for the new media space and I’m looking forward to seeing how blogworld does with your baby in comparison. I agree with Karl, you had a knack for making sure things went smoothly and addressed any issues in a quick and calm manner. Myself and and on behalf of the OC Podcasters whom you’ve been very gracious in helping at the your events we thank you for all the things you’ve done for us and look forward to working with you again in the future.

Congratulations Tim! I was horrified after I mistakenly introduced you to someone at PubCon as affiliated with BlogWorld. Maybe it was just a premonition. :-)
Anyhow, congrats again. We’ll see you next year.

Thanks for all your efforts over the past 3 years, Tim (and Emile). It’s a time of mixed emotions for many of us as the “Podcast Expo” (I’m allowed, I was there from the beginning) moves to it’s next phase. Let’s see what the future has in store.

Tim,
CAT and I had a blast attending the last three and speaking at the last two Expos. The networking and thought exchange was priceless. And we met so many wonderful people from all over!
Good luck with your future endeavors!

I just hope that Rick and team feed the speakers as well as you guys did at New Media Expo, Tim. Man, I just loved the breakfasts and lunches you provided in the speakers room. The networking was great, but dang, you couldn’t beat the food :) You hear that, Rick? Feed your speakers. Well. And provide killer wifi.
Thanks for allowing me to be a part of the podcasting evolution from Ontario, CA to Las Vegas, NV. It was awesome to network with all the early adopters and be part of such a brilliant community of audio and video content creators.
This move really only makes sense, Tim, and it’s good for both podcasting and new media. Exciting times ahead.

Tim,
You and Emile created a terrific venue for the industry and I am glad to see it will continue to grow through this integration with BlogWorld.
You have been most generous with your facilities supporting the birth and growth of the Association for Downloadable Media. Thank you for that.
I have also thoroughly enjoyed teaching attendees about monetizing podcasts the last two years. The crowd is eager to learn, highly appreciative and stays very connected.
I will personally and professionally, both through Personal Life Media and the ADM, be here to support you and the evolving BlogWorld Expo in any way I can.
Congratulations to all!
Warmly,
Susan Bratton

Good companies with good reputation certainly does sell off quite handsomely I guess. Hope this sell off will do good for the blogging community as a whole too.

I was trying to download latest podcast brothers episodes from iTunes and got a “could not find URL” message. So, I started googling ya’ll and ended up here.
Will Podcast Brothers continue? Or at least, is there any way to get the last episode?
It seems like such a shame to have all that content vanish into the Internets.
